DOH: COVID-19 recoveries outnumber deaths; total cases now at 5,453, the highest in South East Asia

The Department of Health announces 58 recoveries, 14 deaths, and 230 new COVID-19 cases as of today, April 15.

After almost a month of recording more fatalities than recoveries, the Philippines now has more patients who have recovered from COVID-19.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported earlier today, April 15, that 58 more people have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of survivors to 353.

The DOH also reported 14 new fatalities, bringing the total death toll to 349.

This is the first time after March 11 that the Philippines has recorded more recoveries than deaths.

Last March 11, the DOH reported 16 confirmed cases, with two new recoveries and one death. Since then, the Philippines has been recording more deaths than recoveries.

The DOH also confirmed today that the Philippines has 230 more COVID-19 cases. 

The total number of COVID-19 cases in the Philippines now stands at 5,453.

Currently, the Philippines has the most number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Southeast Asia.

On Tuesday, April 14, the DOH said it has included in the recovery count those patients who underwent home quarantine and self-isolation.

Before this, DOH had only been counting patients discharged by hospitals.
