The Philippines on Tuesday logged 425 new COVID-19 cases, a new record-low for 2021, as the country evaluates its pandemic response due to the threat of the new Omicron coronavirus variant.
The day's tally brought active cases to 15,800, with a total of 909 new recoveries and 44 new deaths reported.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Philippines has reported a total of 2,832,734 COVID-19 cases of which 2,768,389 have recovered and 48,545 have died.
President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the government's pandemic response task force to study the need to impose stricter COVID-19 protocols in response to the threat of the Omicron variant that was first reported in South Africa.
So far, the Philippines has yet to report any case of the Omicron variant.
