Metro Manila residents can avail of a digital vaccine ID as early as September, the MMDA said Tuesday, as destinations around the world begin requiring travelers with proofs of immunization.
Dubbed VaxCertPH, the system will issue the digital vaccine ID that is "integrated" with the World Health Organization, said MMDA Chairman Benjamin Abalos. The Department of Information and Communications Technology is involved in the effort.
The IDs could be rolled out by Sept. 1, Abalos said. Currently, vaccine cards vary per city and some travelers have had to apply for a yellow card with the Bureau of Quarantine to prove that they had gotten jabbed against COVID-19.
Abalos warned that those who will get their third vaccine dose would face stiff penalties. The government has yet to approve booster doses.
"Ako'y nagbababala talagang makukulong kayo rito, talagang hindi puwede ang gagawin na yun," he said. Quezon City had sued at least two people for securing booster shots.
