Viruses and germs must die and the weapons of choice during this coronavirus pandemic -- soap and disinfectant, the latter can be made at home, according to the Department of Health.
The DOH posted on Facebook a guide to making 0.5 percent sodium hypochlorite or bleach disinfectant solution at home. Remember that this is for use on objects.
- Prepare the materials needed to make the disinfectant solution
- Use gloves, apron, and boots when handling and preparing the bleach solution
- Pour the needed amount of water in a plastic container before adding the bleach
- For bleach with 5 percent active chlorine: 1/4 teaspoon bleach + 2 teaspoons of water OR 1/2 cup of bleach + 4 cups of water
- For bleach chlorine powder/granules/tablet with 60 to 70 percent chlorine: 1 tablespoon (200 grams) of chlorine + 2 liters of water
- Label the disinfectant containers according to bleach concentration before using

According to the memorandom, the sodium hypochlorite solution can be used to disinfect surfaces including soiled clothers, toilets, body fluid spilled on the floors, vehicles, roads, disposed PPEs and similar healthcare wastes, and others.
