The Department of Tourism said Monday it secured a "Safe Travels" stamp from a global organization of private tourism companies, which recognized the Philippines' health protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the certification from the World Travel and Tourism Council, Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat assured the public that the inspection and assessment of establishments would be intensified.
A Safe Travels certification guides tourists when booking, as the world slowly and cautiously reopens during the pandemic. It serves as proof that hotels, airlines, restaurants, tour operators, attractions, transportation and airports operate in accordance to the WTTC's safety protocols.
"The concept of responsible traveling should no longer be limited to keeping our destinations and attractions clean and preserved. In the new normal, travelers will have a bigger role to play. The success of health and safety measures will rely also on their cooperation," Puyat said.
The DOT recently collaborated with the Powerpuff Girls to remind viewers to sanitize, wear face masks, go cashless and stay indoors if they are feeling unwell.
