President Rodrigo Duterte has deferred the implementation of the Child Car Seat Law, Malacañang said Thursday. This aims to give quarantined consumers financial breathing space.
"Nagdesisyon na po ang ating Presidente, ipinagpaliban po or deferred ang pagpapatupad o implementasyon ng child car seats," Duterte's spokesperson, Harry Roque, said.
The law was initially set for mandatory compliance from Feb. 2 but the Department of Transportation postponed it to pave the way for an information campaign.
Signed into law by President Duterte in 2019, the Child Safety in Motor Vehicles Act (Republic Act 11229) requires motorists to install car seats for children below 4'11 in height.
