Duterte-Duterte is Top Pick for President, VP: Pulse Asia

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and her father, President Rodrigo Duterte topped the list of preferred presidential and vice presidential candidates for the 2022 elections, results of a Pulse Asia survey released on Tuesday showed.

Duterte-Carpio was once again the number one pick for president if the elections were held during the June 7 to 16 survey period, chosen by 28% of 2,400 respondents, the pollster said. She was followed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno (14%), former Sen. Bongbong Marcos (13%), and Sen. Grace Poe (10%) sharing the second place.

Vice President Leni Robredo came in third place, with 6% of the respondents choosing her. She statistically tied with Sen. Manny Pacquiao (8%), and Sen. Panfilio Lacson (4%).

Meanwhile, Duterte led the preferred vice presidential bets for the 2022 elections, chosen by 18% of the respondents, tying with Moreno (14%), Pulse Asia said.

They are followed by Senate President Vicente Sotto III (10%), Marcos (10%), Pacquiao (9%), former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano (8%), and Sorosogon Gov. Francis Escudero (7%) in second place.

Thirteen out of 58 probable senatorial candidates included in the recent poll have a statistical chance of winning the elections if it were conducted during the survey period.

Sharing the top spot are Pacquiao and Domagoso at 54% and 53.7% respectively. They are followed by Duterte-Carpio (47.7%), broadcaster Raffy Tulfo (46.4%), Cayetano (46%), and Escudero (45.6%).

Duterte last week said he was inclined to run for vice president in the 2022 elections after some of his partymates in PDP-Laban pushed him to do so to ensure the continuity of the projects and programs of his administration.

Duterte-Carpio, meanwhile, has yet to firm up her decision about vying for the president, although she said in a recent interview that she was “open” to it.
