Addressing uniformed personnel on the 119th anniversary of the police service, President Rodrigo Duterte thanked them for being among frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.

Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal and Laguna are back under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine for 15 days, or until Aug. 18, and with it, police checkpoints are back to make sure people are out on the streets only for essential errands and work where permitted.

"I likewise extend our appreciation for your selfless service as frontliners in our fight against COVID-19 pandemic," he said. "I ask you to ensure that the PNP (Philippine National Police) will remain pandemic-resilient by adopting protective protocols in the new normal."

He recognized the PNP's contributions to the administration's campaigns against illegal drugs, criminality, and terrorism.
