EastWest Bank said a branch manager had "gone missing" along with deposits of two long-time customers and that an investigation was underway.

The amount involved was "not significant," said Gotianun-led EastWest Bank, which had total assets of P361.7 billion as of June 2020 according to Bangko Sentral data. The amount taken will be credited back to the depositors' accounts, it said.

“EastWest will always stand by its commitment to protect depositors’ and customers’ money,” the bank said in a statement late Thursday. Additional safeguards will be put in place to avoid a repeat of the incident, it said.

The missing deposits are "limited to one branch," it said.

The bank issued the statement in response to social media posts about allegedly missing deposits in some banks.
