The enhanced community quarantine or ECQ in Laguna will be extended until Aug. 20, Malacañang announced Saturday, a day before the lockdown in the Southern Tagalog province was supposed to end.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the announcement as the country continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases driven by the spread of the highly contagious coronavirus Delta variant.
The Palace on Friday initially announced that Laguna will transition to the more relaxed modified enhanced community quarantine or MECQ by Aug. 16 until Aug. 31.
With the latest development, Laguna will be under ECQ alongside Metro Manila until Aug. 20.
