Cashless transactions will soon be required in all tollways in the country as part of measures against the spread of COVID-19, the Department of Transportation said Monday, as more transactions go contactless.
Concerned agencies under the DOTr were given three months to determine how toll plazas can go cashless, the agency said on its Facebook page. This is part of efforts to ensure physical distancing and minimize queues at toll gates.
“We carry with us the burden of ensuring that our transport facilities will not be a transmission vector of the disease, while at the same time, providing an efficient system of public transport," Transport Sec. Arthur Tugade said.

Addressing motorists, Tugade said: "If there will be initial inconveniences, let us look forward to the long-term benefit of it."
Contactless transactions will be implemented in the following identified limited access facilities: South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX), North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), South Metro Manila Skyway, Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX).
