Typhoon Fabian and another storm outside the Philippine area of responsibility will enhance the habagat or southwest monsoon on Wednesday, bringing rains over Luzon and Western Visayas, PAGASA said.
Fabian, the sixth storm of 2021, was located at 740 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon at 4 a.m., while severe tropical storm Cempaka (international name) was spotted 1,030 km west of extreme northern Luzon at around the same time.
Only Fabian is inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility and is on its way out.
"Itong dalawang weather disturbances ang nag-eenhance ng habagat sa ating bansa, ang pinakaapektado ang Luzon at Western Visayas," weather forecaster Benison Estareja said.
Expect monsoon rains in the next 24 hours over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Batanes, Babuyan Island, and northern Palawan including Calamian Island, he said.
Tropical cyclone warning signal #1 may be hoisted over Batanes and Babuyan Islands should Fabian move closer to land, PAGASA said. Fabian is forecast to leave PAR on Saturday, July 24.
