Fabian intensified into a severe tropical storm and would continue to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing rains to parts of Luzon, PAGASA said Monday.
Fabian, the sixth storm of 2021, was spotted at 1,055 kilometers east northeast of extreme northern Luzon at 10 a.m., packing maximum sustained winds of up to 95 kilometers per hour with gusts of up to 115 kph, the weather bureau said.
The southwest monsoon will bring rains to the Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan over 24 hours from Monday morning, it said.
Residents in Batanes and Babuyan Islands are advised to monitor the typhoon bulletins in case Fabian shifts its track, it said.
Fabian could reach typhoon strength by Tuesday evening, when it is also expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility at the earliest, said PAGASA.
