Duterte Limits Face Shield Requirement to Hospitals

Policy can be appealed.

President Rodrigo Duterte has decided that the wearing of face shields should be limited in the hospital setting, Malacañang said Thursday, noting that the government's pandemic task force can still appeal the decision.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed Duterte's decision which was initially announced by Senate President Vicente Sotto III.

"Nagsalita po ang Presidente kagabi and I confirm what Senate President Tito Sotto and Sen. Joel Villanueva said na ang wearing of face shields should only be in hospitals but puwede pong umapela ang IATF sa desisyon na 'yan," Roque said in a Palace press briefing.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno earlier sought the easing of face shield regulations, saying these should only be used in hospitals.

The wearing of face shields on top of face masks in public places was first made mandatory in December last year as the country prepared for possible spikes in COVID-19 cases. At the start of the pandemic, only face masks were required in public places.
