The Food and Drug Administration said Friday it cleared Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use on minors aged 12 to 17 as more young people get infected with COVID-19.
Moderna applied for an amendment to its emergency use authorization or (EUA) two weeks ago to include its use in adolescents, FDA Director General Eric Domingo said.
"With the Delta variant affecting a lot of children, nakita po ng ating mga expert that the benefit of using the vaccine outweighs the risk," Domingo said.
The Philippines so far allows COVID-19 vaccination for those aged 18 and above. The DOH urged adults with kids at home to get vaccinated instead to lower the chances of children getting infected.
