65-Year-Old Filipina Assaulted in New York Racist Violence

She was on her way to church.

An unidentified man punched and kicked a 65-year-old Filipina-American while shouting anti-Asian statements as she was walking to church in New York City on Monday, U.S. media reported.

The New York Police Department's Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident, which came as U.S. authorities moved to clamp down on racist attacks against Asians, according to ABC New York.

The assault happened in front of an apartment building in 43rd St., Midtown at around 11:40 a.m. (11:40 p.m. in Manila), CCTV footage showed. The man was heard saying “f*** you, you don’t belong here!," said CeFaan Kim of ABC7NY.

Citing sources, Kim said the building security guard failed to help the victim who was kicked multiple times in the head.

The victim is hospitalized "with swelling to the face, pain in the left leg". 

U.S. President Joe Biden on March 17 had condemned what he called "vicious hate crimes" committed against Asian Americans since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, calling such acts "un-American" and demanding they stop.
