A Filipino lawyer on vacation in the U.S. has died after figuring in a shooting incident in Philadelphia, his family said Monday morning (Manila time).

John Albert Laylo, 35, was with his mother Leah to catch a flight to Chicago on Saturday when their Uber vehicle was fired upon. Laylo was hit in the head while his mother was wounded by glass fragments, Consul General of the Philippines in New York Elmer Cato said in a series of tweets.

"Before he left he made sure we had fun! But never did I imagine or dream that its almost the end of our vacation will be like this! We travelled together and we are supposed to go home together! I will bring him home soon in a box!" his mother said in a Facebook post.

"As one final mission, he will be donating his organs to those who need it. My brother may no longer be with us, but I shall find peace in the thought that at least somewhere in the world, a piece of him is alive and beating," his sister Althea said in a tweet.

No arrests have been made and the police has yet to release information on the suspects, NBC Philadephia reported

Laylo was a former staff of Sen. Leila de Lima, who earlier asked for justice for the "brutal and senseless act" in a tweet Sunday.

"Walang puwang dapat ang ganitong karahasan sa mundo. Dapat mapanagot agad ang maysala at matigil na ang ganitong mga karumal-dumal na krimen."

Before his passing, Vice President Leni Robredo also asked for prayers for Laylo. He was an official counsel of Robredo in the Board of Canvassers in Makati for the May 9 elections, according to his sister.
