Former President Joseph "Erap" Estrada, who is infected with COVID-19, has been taken off ventilator support as his condition improved, his son said Friday.
The 83-year-old Estrada however still needs "high flow oxygenation," his eldest son former Sen. Jinggoy Estrada said.
"We are extremely happy to announce that my father has now been removed from ventilator support although he continues to require high flow oxygenation," the younger Estrada said in a Facebook post.
"We still have a long way to go before he is completely out of danger and we hope that he continues to fight with his usual tenacity as only Erap can," he added.
The elder Estrada was earlier placed under intensive care and needed a mechanical ventilator due to his COVID pneumonia.
