Singer Gab Valenciano got a hit song, albeit by accident, while campaigning for presidential candidate Leni Robredo and his uncle, vice presidential candidate Kiko Pangilinan.
Valenciano's "Ang Presidente... Bise Presidente," has been viewed over 314,000 times since it was uploaded on Pangilinan's Facebook page two days ago last May 1. On Spotify, it has gotten nearly 270,000 streams as of Tuesday.
The song debuted in Bataan in mid-April and during Robredo's birthday rally in Pasay City last May 23, where he performed it with his pop superstar father, Gary Valenciano.
While Valenciano only raps "Ang Presidente, Leni Robredo, Bise Presidente Kiko Pangilinan" and the tagline "Gobyernong tapat, angat buhay lahat", the song has become a viral hit and is now frequently played during the tandem's rallies.
Pangilinan said he's proud of his nephew, Valenciano who accompanies him at rallies. Valenciano's mother Angeli is Pangilinan's sister.
"Kung ang tatay ni Gab ay si Mr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano, si Gab naman ay si Mr. Renewable Energy," Pangilinan said.
Pangilinan and his brothers also surprised the crowd at "Leniwanag sa Diliman" rally last April 24 through music when they performed "Sa Ilalim ng Puno ng Saging," a ditty they've sung mostly at private family gatherings.
The song, which Pangilinan's brother Joseph describes as a song about courtship, was entered in the "Haranahan sa Diliman" singing competition by the Pangilinan brothers in the 1980s.
Should he win in the elections, Pangilinan said he sought to continue his advocacy for agriculture, ensuring that farmers and fisherfolk would receive sufficient support from the government.
