Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian on Sunday said he was considering running for vice president in the 2022 elections.
Gatchalian, a first-term senator, said he was up for re-election in the Senate but he was also open to running for a higher position.
When asked if the higher position he was seeking was the vice presidency, Gatchalian said: "Yun po ang posisyon na ating pinag-iisipan."
Gatchalian said among those that he would consult is his party, the Nationalist People's Coalition. The party is chaired by Senate President Vicente Sotto III, who is also planning to run for vice president next year.
Gatchalian said he would talk to Sotto about his plans to run for vice president.
Prior to being elected senator in 2016, Gatchalian served as mayor of Valenzuela City from 2004 to 2013. He also represented the city's first legislative district in the House of Representatives from 2001 to 2004 and again from 2013 to 2016.
