Sen. Richard Gordon has been admitted to the hospital for further testing after he was diagnosed with COVID-19, his office said Thursday.
The 75-year-old Gordon, who also heads the Philippine Red Cross, was admitted to the Makati Medical Center on Wednesday night for observation upon the advice of his doctor. He was fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
"Initial COVID-19 panel test results and high resolution chest CT-scan findings indicate COVID pneumonia," Gordon's office said in a statement posted on the senator's Twitter account.
"Sen. Gordon is being treated accordingly and will remain at MMC until further notice. He sends his thanks to all of those who have sent messages and offered prayers for his recovery," it added.
Gordon is the latest senator to have tested positive for the disease, which has over 26,000 Filipinos and plunged millions into poverty. Other senators who had COVID-19 include Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senators Sonny Angara, Bong Revilla Jr., and Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III.
