Senior citizens, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities need not to fall in line to vote in the May 9 elections, as a priority lane will be dedicated for them in polling centers, according to the Comelec's official voter information partner.
Some 65 million Filipinos are registered to vote on May 9, according to the Commission on Elections, which means there could be long lines to each voting precinct that could accommodate voters from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. only.
Priority lanes will be set up in voting precincts for senior citizens, pregnant women, and PWDs so they no longer need to wait for a long time to cast their votes, Vote Pilipinas said in an instructional video on its Facebook page.
Here's how to vote if you are senior citizen, pregnant, or PWD:
- Go to your polling precinct and look for the priority lane for senior citizens, pregnant women, and PWDs.
- Present a valid government ID to the facilitator in the priority lane.
- Wait for your turn to vote.
- After voting, insert your ballot in the vote counting machine. For those who can't read and write, there is an audio instruction on how to use the VCM which you can listen to through headphones.
- Have your index finger marked with indelible ink which indicates that you are done casting your votes.
What else do you need to know?
After inserting your ballot in the VCM, a printout of your votes will come out. Read the votes carefully and make sure they are correct.
Drop your vote printout or receipt in the receptacle box. You cannot bring this printout home. Also remember that you cannot take a picture of your ballot or take a selfie with it.
