Gyms cannot reopen yet in Metro Manila and its suburbs, despite being downgraded to the GCQ or second lowest quarantine classification, officials said. This also applies to internet cafes.

Quarantine guidelines allow gyms to reopen at 30 percent capacity in General Community Quarantine areas. However, this will not apply for the meantime in the National Capital Region, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said.

The general rule in GCQ, don't go out of the house unless it's necessary or if it's for work,  Roque told reporters.

The capital has a "long way to go (malayo pa po ang tatahakin)" before it can be downgraded to the lowest quarantine, MGCQ, Roque said. Local authorities must bring down the rate at which infections double (case doubling) and ensure there are enough hospital beds for critical care, he said.
