Mohamad Ali Sulaiman, who was identified as the driver in the hit-and-run incident that killed medical frontliner Renz Perez, has given himself up to authorities, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said Friday.
Sulaiman will be given due process and the chance to explain himself, Moreno said on Facebook. "Maraming salamat po at pinili niya po na harapin ang magiging hatol sa kanya (I am thankful that he chose to face the outcome of the case)."
Perez was riding a bicycle on his way to work in Ermita, Manila when the pick-up truck that Sulaiman was driving struck him.

In a report by INQUIRER.net, Sulaiman was quoted, "Gusto ko humingi ng paumanhin sa nagawa kong aksidente at ako ay hindi muna lumitaw at nadala sa takot... Sana mapatawad ninyo ako sa kasalanan ko."
(I want to ask for forgiveness for the accident and for not showing up sooner due to fear... I hope you can forgive me.)
Moreno appealed to the owner of the pick-up truck to help the family of the bereaved. "Maging takdang aral sa atin ito sa pagpapahiram ng sasakyan, dahil I think your lawyer will agree with me that there is some level of responsibility as the owner."
(May this be a lesson in lending vehicles, because I think your lawyer will agree that there is some level of responsibility as the owner.)
