In a few days, Filipinos will pull up their e-commerce platform of choice in hopes of nabbing an item on promo, as they have every month before while in lockdown. Adding to cart has become a welcome, albiet costly distraction.

While some work smart with vouchers, not everyone knows how to maximize the limited sale. Big-ticket item or not, you can still find ways to bring home your item of choice for the lowest price.

Here are ways you can prepare for the 10-10 or any monthly sale:

Figure out what you want

Be it a cordless vacuum or an airfryer, you most likely already have an item in mind. When the clock strikes midnight, it can get overwhelming with all the deals pouring in all at once.

Opening the app during a monthly sale exposes you to a vast inventory of products that can lead to endless scrolling—a distraction from scoring the best deal within the given time period.

Prioritize what you need or what you’ve been wanting for weeks or even months. Check these out first, then if you have some cash left to spare, you can run wild later.

Determining what you’ll checkout ahead of time will give you a much-needed reality check: Do you need all of this? Do you have enough money for everything you’re going to buy? Which brand or shop offers a better promo?

Vouchers are your friend

On top of platform-wide vouchers, shops also offer discounts for certain products or minimum spends. Some of them are available for claiming hours or days before the actual sale, while some drop at midnight or particular times during the monthly sale.

Before checking out, tick different vouchers for the best combo of free shipping and discounts. Once you’ve reached the smallest possible amount, you can check out.

Set an alarm

The sale officially starts at midnight, but some sales and vouchers are only up during particular hours. I know you’ll say you’ll remember, but it’s easy to forget when you’re doing something else.

Set an alarm so even if it slips your mind, your phone will definitely remind you. This applies for brand sales, voucher claiming, or even games that reward coins or discounts.

Add to cart ahead of time

Add the items you plan to check out to your cart prior to the sale. A quick refresh will reflect the new discounted price in case it goes on sale and you can jump ahead to payment.

Before a monthly sale some time back, I added a cordless vacuum to cart. When the monthly sale kicked in, I refreshed and the price was automatically slashed by several hundred pesos. It saved me time in double-checking the model and variation, and I could just check it out since I knew it was the product I wanted.

If you’re assessing which shop will offer a bigger sale, seeing the prices side by side in your cart at the same time can help you decide which one to buy.

Load up on credits

Paying using the platform’s wallet or credits grants access to exclusive vouchers. Cashless and contactless transactions can bring that hair curler home at a cheaper price tag.

Best to load up on credits ahead of time. Banks and e-wallets may suffer from heavy traffic at least two hours before the sale starts, with some undergoing maintenance during the event.

Loading up ahead of time prevents last-minute top-ups that spell the difference between waiting for a package and being left with a "Sold out" banner. If you want to limit your spending, setting a cap on your top-up amount can pull you back from spending too much on cash on deliveries.

Regardless of how much you load, filling your wallet with sufficient credits for checkouts in the future can aid you in flash sales or in the emergency purchase of essentials online.
