Cop in Viral Shooting Video Breaks Silence, Says He Regrets What He Did

He says he'll face the charges in court.

A policeman who was charged with murder for shooting his unarmed neighbors in a fit of rage said Tuesday that he regreted his actions, as public outrage mounted over a viral video of the incident.

Interviewed by GMA News at his jail cell in Paniqui, Tarlac, Senior Master Sgt. Jonel Nuezca said he would answer he charges against him in court.

"Ang laki ng pagsisisi," Nuezca said, when asked if regretted what he did.

"Tapos na po yung kaso, doon ko na sasagutin ang mga katanungan."

The viral video of Nuezca shooting Sonya Rufino Gregorio, 52, and Frank Anthony Rufino Gregorio, 25 at close range drew widespread condemnation and  stirred conversations on police brutality and impunity. 

 Nuezca was seen shooting the unarmed Sonya and Frank Anthony at point black following a heated argument over the use of boga or improvised firecracker. The crime occurred in front of the policeman's young daughter.

Both President Rodrigo Duterte and Vice President Leni Robredo condemned the incident, with the former calling Nuezca as sick in the brain (may topak.)

President Duterte also asked the Philippine National Police to ensure that Nuezca remains behind bars.
