Is Bongbong Marcos in Talks With Duterte for 2022 Elections?

Former Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Friday he was in talks with "everyone" including the camp of President Rodrigo Duterte, noting that he was "very close to announcing" his 2022 elections plans.

The son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., who earlier confirmed plans to run for a national post, said he had "a lot" of informal talks with both factions of the ruling PDP-Laban political party including the President--who has confirmed plans to run for vice president.

"Everybody who is in the mix kung sabihin ay kinakausap natin. I have to agree, these are all informal," Marcos told reporters.

Duterte has accepted his nomination as a vice-presidential candidate of a faction of PDP-Laban while his endorsed running mate for president, Sen. Bong Go has so far rejected his nomination.

"Yung PDP-Laban, yes, there are no formal talks but there have been a lot of informal talks," Marcos said.

Marcos, who lost to Vice President Leni Robredo in the 2016 elections, refused to confirm persistent talk that he would run for president in 2022.

"The consideration is to run for any national position right now," he said.

"Kung yung mother ko ang masusunod, teenager pa lang ako ginawa na akong presidente," he added, referring to Imelda.

Marcos on Friday was also endorsed to run for president by the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, a party founded by his late father dictator Ferdinand Marcos--for which he responded with a "message of appreciation."

So far, three politicians have confirmed intentions to run for president: Senators Ping Lacson and Manny Pacquiao, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
