It's official: Kanye West has announced that he is running for president in the 2020 United States of America elections. West made the announcement on his Twitter account in the evening of July 4, U.S. time, on the day they celebrate their independence. The famous rapper wrote "We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future."

His camp is yet to clarify whether West has done the official paperwork for his name to appear on the ballots on the November 3 elections, noted a Reuters report. The deadline to file for independent candidates is yet to pass in several states.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the only presidential candidate with the name "Kanye West" in the Federal Elections Commision's database as of July 4 U.S. time is a Green Party candidate named "Kanye Deez Nutz West."

Meanwhile, Elon Musk, Tesla Inc. chief executive and 31st on Forbes' list of 2020's richest billionaires, was quick to reply with his support.

West is a known supporter of incumbent U.S. President Donald Trump. He has been very vocal about this while his wife (and now possible incoming U.S. First Lady), Kim Kardashian, has distanced herself.
