Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan on Friday filed cyber libel complaints against Google Philippines and two YouTube channels for multiple videos attacking his marriage to actress Sharon Cuneta.

The opposition leader said the time has come to fight back after five years on the receiving end of fake news. Involving his family in the misinformation is "too much," he told reporters.

This is too much," he said.

Pangilinan complained against owners of YouTube channels “Starlet” and “Latest Chika”, which he said have been incessant in their claims that he physically abused Cuneta, whom they also accused of adultery. They also apparently said that his wife and daughter KC Concepcion (whom he adopted) has filed a domestic abuse case against him.

Of the 82 videos his office requested be taken down, 54 have yet to be decided upon while 28 were rejected through a "template uniform message" for lack of merit, the senator said.

This "inaction" pushed Pangilinan to also file a case against Google, which owns YouTube. He directed his complaint at country manager Bernadatte Nacario.

“There is obviously a gap somewhere. This needs to stop. Social media sites need to step up and be more responsive to reports and more especially to legal complaints. These are harmful to individuals and to families,”  he said.

The senator said his move should serve as a "wake up call" for the public to become more discerning about the news they consume.

We will see them in court,” he added.
