Lacson-Sotto Set Aug. 5 Announcement for 2022 Election Plans

Nationwide consultations ongoing.

Sen. Panfilo Lacson and Senate President Vicente Sotto III are set to announce their plans to for president and vice president, respectively, in the 2022 elections on August 5 as their nationwide consultations with local leaders continue.

"Ang plano namin ni Sen. Lacson, officially mag-aannounce kami sa Aug. 5, tentatively. Meron lang mga consultations pang konting aasikasuhin," Sotto told dwIZ in an interview on Saturday.

"The preparations, the consultations and the information necessary na gusto namin, by that time siguro nasa amin na at makakapag-prepare na kami," he added.

The two senators kicked off their consultative meetings in Bulacan last Thursday and proceeded to other provinces in Luzon over the weekend. They also plan to visit Visayas provinces this week and Mindanao in the last week of July.

According to Sotto's office, the consultative meetings were meant to check the situation of local government units in the region and get suggestions for the post-pandemic recovery plan of the country.

Sotto said the response of the local leaders about their proposed programs to address the pandemic and other issues were "very encouraging."

Sotto earlier said he was considering running for vice president in the 2022 elections and would support Lacson should his Senate colleague decides to vie for the presidency for the second time.

Lacson, who said it's presidency or retirement for him in 2022, also gave the same support for Sotto. Should they both decide to run, their tandem for the next year's polls was already "cast in stone," he added.
