Sen. Leila De Lima on Wednesday said she would seek reelection for senator in 2022, adding her unjust detention over drug-related charges only pushed her to press on with the fight for her advocacies.
In a letter addressed to President Rodrigo Duterte ahead of his final State of the Nation Address on July 26, De Lima vowed to run after the 76-year-old leader over her detention and his failure to solve the country's problems.
The senator also criticized the President for failing to address issues involving illegal drugs, corruption, the West Philippine Sea, and the economy.
De Lima, one of Duterte's staunchest critics, has been in detention since February 2017 due to drug-related charges over allegations that she allowed the illegal drug trade to proliferate inside the New Bilibid Prison while she was justice secretary.
