Leni-Kiko Tandem Embodies Real Unity, Priests Say

Church members define what unity means.

Vice President Leni Robredo and Sen. Kiko Pangilinan embody the real definition of unity, not their rivals, priests and church members said in an endorsement video posted Sunday.

Real unity is in helping uplift the lives of fellow Filipinos in all sectors, the kind of unity that gives light in dark times, said the group led by Archbishop Socrates Villegas in a Facebook video.

Kung nagkakaisa tayo dapat sa ilalim ng malinaw na plano, komprehensibong plataporma, at isang mahusay na pinuno. Pangulong may integidad, subok na, palaging nakikita, marami nang napatunayan. Kung wala ang mga ito ang pangako ng pagkakaisa ay salita lamang," they said.

It's not unity if corrupt politicians are teaming up to maintain their grip on power, they said, without naming anyone.

The son of late dictator Bongbong Marcos and President Rodrigo Duterte's daughter Sara are running together for the two highest positions in the country, preaching unity under their tandem dubbed "UniTeam".

The pair is endorsed by former presidents Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Fidel Ramos, and Joseph Estrada.

"Kung puro mandarambong at kurakot ang magsasama-sama, nakakatakot ang puwedeng mangyari. Hindi pagkakaisa ang tawag doon, kundi sindikato," they warned.

Defining unity, they said “ito ang ang pagbibigay ng sarili sa kapwa. Ito ang pagkapit sa pag-asang dala ng gobyernong tapat para umangat ang buhay ng lahat. Ito ang mukha ng tunay na pagkakaisa."
