Typhoon Odette (Rai) tore down power lines and trees and damaged shopping mall facades in Cebu City after it bore down on the area overnight with monster winds that also shut the international airport there.

Cebu City bore the brunt of Odette's peak winds of 171-220 kph winds, at Signal no. 4, at around 11 p.m. Friday. Among the casualties was the giant Christmas tree on Fuente Circle.

At IT Park, felled trees obstructed the roads. Heavy rains and strong winds brought by Odette, the 15th storm of the year, also destroyed parts of the Cebu IT Tower and the Ayala Mall Central Bloc , based on photos taken by David Owen Cabarrubias on Friday morning.

Odette, which made at least eight landfalls, is expected to hit land in Palawan on Friday before it leaves the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday, according to PAGASA.
