LRT-2 commuters can now ride trains from Recto in Manila all the way to the new east extension in Marikina and Antipolo without transferring trains in Santolan, authorities said Tuesday.

Before the east extension was connected to the old line, commuters had to take a shuttle train from Santolan, which lengthens average trip time to 18 to 20 minutes.

"Finally, passengers will not have to transfer at Santolan to complete their journeys," LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya said in a statement.

The LRT Authority also fielded eight trains from the previous five trainsets, which will cut the interval between trains from 20 minutes to 10 minutes.
