The LRT-2 East Extension stations in Marikina and Antipolo opened to commuters Monday, with free rides until July 18.
The extension project is expected to shorten travel time from Recto in Manila to Antipolo in Rizal to 40 minutes compared to an estimated three-hour trip via jeepney or bus, and are seen to accommodate an additional 80,000 passengers daily.

Free rides for two weeks
Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade granted President Rodrigo Duterte’s request to give commuters free rides for two weeks. This will cover trips from Santolan to Antipolo Stations and vice versa, taking effect starting July 5 until July 18.

You’ll have to ride a shuttle
According to Light Rail Transit Authority Spokesperson Hernando Cabrera, signalling between the original line and extension is pending full integration, meaning seamless crossover is not possible yet.
“Passengers will have to transfer to and from the original line at Santolan Station to complete the journey,” Cabrera said in a tweet.
Shuttles will be provided so commuters can reach their destination.
Fares for the Marikina and Antipolo trips
A train ride from Recto to either Marikina or Antipolo and vice versa is priced at P30 for a single-journey ticket. Beep card commuters will only have to pay P26 for the trip.
