More trains for the LRT-2 are expected to run by April, just in time for the opening of the East Extension Project in Marikina and Antipolo, Department of Transportation said Thursday.

Inspection for the ongoing installation of the train propulsion system and train monitoring system on three train sets was done last week.
Due to social distancing protocols, commuters must be spaced one seat apart. Fielding more trains will increase capacity and lessen waiting time without sacrificing safety.

"We are fast-tracking the restoration of the three trainsets to augment the existing operational trains of Line 2 and to reduce the current 14-minute headway to 9 minutes," Light Rail Transit Authority Administrator Reynaldo Berroya said.
The additional trains will increase daily ridership to 60,000.
According to the LRT-2 Engineering Department, restoration of the two trains involved in the collision incident is currently underway and is eyed for completion in the third quarter of 2021.
"With the commitment provided by our maintenance provider, manufacturer, and the LRTA, we expect to have 8 trainsets and 10 trainsets by second quarter and third quarter of 2021, respectively," Berroya said.
More down trains will be rehabilitated and new trainsets will be procured for the LRT-2 East and West Extension Projects.
