A Magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck off Sarangani province early Wednesday, Phivolcs said, adding aftershocks and damage were possible. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
The quake happened around 7:34 a.m., with the epicenter located east of Alabel, Sarangani, Phivolcs said.
Intensity V (strong) was recorded in General Santos City, South Cotabato while Intensity IV (moderately strong) was felt in Kiamba, Alabel, Maasim, Glan, Malungon and Malapatan Saranggani; Lebak, Sultan Kudarat; Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao; Koronadal City,
Polomolok, Tampakan and Tupi, South Cotabato.
Intensity III (weak) was recorded in Maitum, Sarangani; Cotabato City, Maguindanao; Davao City; Kidapawan City, North Cotabato; Tantangan and Santo Nino, South Cotabato;
Intensity II (slightly felt) in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat; Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat; Magpet, North Cotabato; and Intensity I (scarcely perceptible) in Zamboanga City.
Remember that magnitude refers to the strength of the earthquake itself while intensity measures how much it is felt in different locations.
