Man Tagged in Vaccine Slots for Sale Surrenders, Denies Wrongdoing

A man accused of selling vaccine slots in Mandaluyong City turned himself in to authorities and denied involvement in the alleged scam, Mayor Menchie Abalos said.

Abalos said the man's father informed her about his son, causing the surrender. She did not identify the alleged seller.

"Bawal po ang magbenta ng slot o ng bakuna, kayo ay makukulong. At sa mga gustong magpabakuna at sumingit at magbabayad, pati kayo po ay makukulong," said MMDA chairman Benjamin Abalos, former Mandaluyong mayor and husband of the incumbent.

Screenshots of alleged unauthorized selling of COVID vaccines went viral on social media. The Philippine National Police (PNP) issued subpoenas against people behind the scam.

At present, the government is rolling out vaccines to the following priority groups: health workers (A1), senior citizens (A2), and persons with comorbidities (A3). It is working to extend the vaccination program to economic frontliners (A4) by the end of the month.
