For cosplayer Dan Ramon Geromo or @spiderdangeromo on Instagram, the famous line "With great power, comes great responsibility" should be acted upon and not just said. In a report by DZBB's Isa Avendaño-Umali for GMA News, "Spider-Dan" was spotted in Pasig City distributing relief goods to stranded construction workers in the area, as well as the jobless employees of City Golf.
The cosplayer is also a Pasig City resident and thought that his volunteer efforts could bring joy to his fellow Filipinos struggling to make ends meet during the ECQ. In a video interview with Isa Umali, Dan shares, "Yung [Spider-Man] costume mo kasi, pagnakita yan ng mga tao, nagbibigay yan ng konting hope na may pag-asa pa at pagdadaanan natin 'to. Magandang paraan 'to para magamit ko yung pagko-cosplay ko. Na hindi lang siya hobby, kung 'di sa pagtulong din." The volunteer also points out that his costume covers his body from head-to-toe and serves as a makeshift PPE suit.
Photos posted on his Instagram account also show that Dan opted to give a healthy selection of vegetables instead of the typical canned goods, all the while mindful of practicing approriate social-distancing.
Spider-Dan is proof that heroes do exist in real life, and there are new ones that rise every day during a crisis.
