Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos said Tuesday the city government set aside P200 million to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for its residents once it's available.

"Pipilitin namin, sa abot ng aming makakaya at sa pakikipagtulungan ng bawat isa, na mabakunahan ang bawat Mandaleño," Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos said in a statement.
Abalos said she formed a committee to oversee the procurement and distribution of the vaccines. Committee members were ordered to ensure that the vaccine is made accessible to every city resident.

Local government units can't buy vaccines straight from manufacturers. In the meantime, the Department of Health recommended LGUs to pool funds for the purchase of vaccines while jabs from several manufacturers are awaiting approvals and clinical trial results.
