LOOK: LRT-2's Marikina and Antipolo Stations Ahead of Opening

Final touches for the LRT-2’s Marikina and Antipolo stations are in place ahead of its June opening, photos showed.

D.M. Consuji Inc. architect Vernon John C. Florendo has been posting photos since October 2018 until June 2021 to share the progress on the Emerald and Masinag Stations in Marikina and Antipolo respectively.

The Department of Transportation postponed the extension project’s April 27 opening to the third week of June to prioritize the safety of train staff and passengers as the country saw a spike in COVID cases and stricter quarantine restrictions during that time.

LRT-2 East Extension Opening Moved to June

According to Florendo’s post, final turn-over joint inspection of the LRT-2 East Extension with the Department of Transportation, management, and private consultants took place on Wednesday.

“TVMs (Ticket Vending Machine), turnstiles & Lighted Signages are up! Marikina & Antipolo Stations are good to go!” Florendo said in a post.

“Oras na maging operational ang proyektong ito, ang dating travel time mula Manila hanggang Antipolo ay magiging 40 minutes na lamang, kumpara sa dating tatlong oras na biyahe sakay ang bus o jeepney,” Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade said during a separate inspection.
