(UPDATE) Severe Tropical Storm Maring (Kompasu) moved closer to the Philippines' northern tip on Monday as it stirred rains over Central Luzon and the Cagayan Valley regions, PAGASA said.

Packing maximum sustained winds of 95 kph with 115 kph gusts, Maring could pass over the Babuyan Islands late Monday before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday morning, the weather bureau said.

At 4 p.m., the 13th storm of 2021 was spotted 105 kilometers east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan. Maring is also enhancing the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing rains over Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Oriental Mindoro for most of Monday until early Tuesday, PAGASA said.
