House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez on Monday said he was also open to possibly running for senator again in the 2022 elections as he pondered the endorsement of President Rodrigo Duterte for him to vie for the vice presidency.
"I'm open to any suggestion and I'll process that," Romualdez told ANC when asked about suggestions for him to run for senator first.
"Of course my priorities are to my district where I'm a congressman right now, and the region. And obviously I'd like to be able to fulfill my own commitments there. Only then I can really venture into the world of the national arena," he said.
Romualdez in 2016 ran unsuccessfully for senator under the Lakas-CMD party, where he serves as president.
Duterte earlier expressed support for Romualdez should he run for vice president next year, saying he would even back out from PDP-Laban's bid for him to vie for the same position.
Romualdez said he was very thankful and appreciative of the President's endorsement. "I would also have to take into consideration the landscape of the presidentiables and who will be actually filing. So we'll have to wait for those events to take place," he said.
Lakas-CMD is renewing its alliance with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio's Hugpong ng Pagbabago party, adding that they would support the president's daughter's possible run for a higher office next year.
