Metro Manila's water regulator said Wednesday it ordered water providers to grant a grace period and installment plan to help customers recover from the mounting bills that accumulated over the quarantine periods.

In line with the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, or the Bayanihan 2 Law, theMetropolitan Waterworks & Sewerage System directed Manila Water Company, Inc. and Maynilad Water Services, Inc. to grant all customers a 30-day grace period to settle bills that piled up over the periods of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

The two water providers were also required to implement a 3-month installment payment plan for micro, small, and medium enterprises along with regular customers after the grace period has elapsed.

Customers can expect to pay water bills dated Aug. 4 to 18 free of incurring interests, additional charges, or penalties.
