McDonald's BFF Fries Return as Delivery Exclusive

Bigger servings are back.

McDonald's Philippines said Wednesday its largest size for french fries, BFF, would return as a delivery exclusive, citing the global freight crisis that has disrupted supply chains.

"There is no clarity" as to when imports of french fries will normalize, McDonald's said. For weeks, it has limited servings to regular and removed options to upsize portions to medium, large and BFF.

McDonalds BFF fries cost P135, excluding delivery charges, via its own delivery website, Grab, and foodpanda based on a quick check in northern Metro Manila stores as of Thursday morning.

Medium and large fries remain temporarily unavailable via delivery. Regular fries can still be bought via dine-in, takeout, drive-thru and delivery, McDonald's corporate relations director Adi Hernandez said in a statement to reportr.

McDonald's removed large french fries servings due to delays in the importation of russet variety potatoes, the standard for its fried potatoes around the world, managing director Margot Torres told Agriculture Sec. William Dar in a letter dated May 26.

Russet potatoes, imported from the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and China, is the only variety McDonald's Philippines can use under its licensing agreement "to ensure a uniform appearance and a crisp tender bite," said Torres.

"We cannot deviate from said standard and use other variety of potatoes for our fries, including those that are grown in the country."
