Metro Manila will remain under MECQ until Sept. 7 as to thwart the highly contagious Delta coronavirus variant, Malacañang said Saturday.
Fifteen other areas will also be under MECQ, the second highest in the four-step community quarantine classification during the same period, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said.
Apart from the capital region, Bataan and Laguna will have added restrictions on dining, personal care services, and religious activities.
The MECQ in Metro Manila was originally scheduled until Aug. 31 before the extension was announced Saturday.
