Nearly 3 million households serviced by Meralco have no electricity as of 8 a.m. Thursday, the power distribution company said after Typhoon Ulysses damaged power lines.

Some 2.95 million households in Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon province, Caloocan City, Quezon City, Marikina City, Muntinlupa City, and Makati City were without power as of early Thursday, Meralco said.

Meralco Spokesperson Joe Zaldarriaga said it might take some time before power supply can be restored.

"It might take some time so humihingi po tayo ng pang-unawa," he said in an interview on DZBB.

Ulysses lashed Central Luzon overnight until early Thursday, triggering floods and calls for help on social media.

In Metro Manila, rising water levels at the Marikina River level drew comparisons to Typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) which flooded the capital region in 2009.
