Meralco said Monday it would increase its rates for August even as it assured customers in areas under lockdown that there would be no disconnection for the meantime.
The power distributor said it was implementing a P0.0965 increase per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh could see a P19 increase in its total bill.
Meralco had suspended disconnection activities in Metro Manila and Laguna for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine in the said areas, as well as in Cavite, Rizal, and Lucena City which are under modified enhanced community quarantine.
Meralco said its online channels would remain operational to attend to customers' concerns even during lockdowns.
