Meralco said Friday it would increase its rates for July due to the persistently high cost of buying electricity.

The power distributor said it was implementing a P0.2353 increase per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh could see an increase of around P47 in the total bill.

Meralco said the generation charge for July also saw a slight increase atP4.8707 per kWh from last month’sP4.6171 per kWh with supply conditions in the Luzon Grid remaining tight.

Here are some tips on how to conserve energy from Meralco:

  • Clean your aircon filters every two weeks to ensure optimal performance
  • Set your aircon's thermostat to 25oC to maximize efficiency
  • Ensure that your refrigerator’s air vents are not blocked to keep its compressor from working harder
  • Unplug appliances when not in use
