Meralco said Friday it would increase rates for September as it assured households in MECQ areas that there would be no disconnection.
The power distributor said it was implementing a P0.1055 increase per kilowatt-hour (kWh). This means that a typical household consuming 200 kWh could see a P21 increase in its total bill.
Meralco also reiterated that it would extend its "no disconnection" policy in areas under MECQ this September namely Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Lucena City in Quezon and Rizal.
“Given the most recent announcement of the Government placing NCR, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna under MECQ, all disconnection activities in the said areas will also be suspended to help ease the burden of our customers with the needed relief and additional time to settle their bills,” said Ferdinand Geluz, Meralco FVP and chief commercial officer.
Meralco said its online channels would remain operational to attend to customers' concerns even during lockdowns.
